Summer
Environmental Education Internship
June 2008 – August 2008
Summary of position:
The Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium is currently
seeking individuals to assist in the facilitation of our
2008 summer camp program. The camp is held for youth aged
5 to 18, and runs 5 days a week from early June through
August. Program topics include natural history, astronomy,
and earth science, and occasionally involve off-site field
trips to the area beaches, historical museums, canoe trips,
and other exciting places in Southwest Florida!
Daily responsibilities include:
• Facilitation of camp programs/trips and children for
the duration of summer camp
• Presenting live animal and butterfly programs to camp
groups
• Preparing materials for upcoming camps, and cleaning
up materials from previous camps
• Caring and maintaining necessary equipment
• Serving as an ambassador for Calusa Nature Center and
Planetarium
On-site training will be provided.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree, or enrolled in environmental education
or related field or equivalent training and knowledge
• CPR/ First Aid Certifications preferred
• Experience working with children in a formal setting
• Some experience in a summer camp setting strongly preferred
• Strong organizational, problem solving, teaching and
computer skills
• Ability to work effectively, both independently and as
a team player
• Willingness and excitement to work with youth in an outdoor
setting
• Cheerful, energetic, and outgoing demeanor
Compensation:
Stipend of $300/ week, or $200/ week with housing provided.
Space for housing is limited and on a first come first
serve basis.
