Discover, explore, touch, and learn about Florida’s estuary animals up-close when you visit our interactive 1,000 gallon estuary touch tank. How many eyes does a Horseshoe crab have? How does a sea star eat? What is an estuary? Learn the answers to these questions and more! Public touch tank presentations for the month of January are at 1:00 p.m. on odd numbered days. Our 1,000 gallon touch tank was sponsored by the South Florida Water Management District. Construction of the massive exhibit tank started in late August of 2008 and was finished by mid September 2008. Currently the tank is stocked with live Florida estuary animal species such as horseshoe crabs, oysters, hermit crabs, sea stars, various fish species and many different types of mollusks like lightening whelks. Estuary temperatures, salinity levels, and animal species are always in a constant state of change as are the animal species in our tank. No two visits will be the same! |
