Show Descriptions

Is Pluto a planet or isn't it? What makes something a planet? How many planets does the Sun have? Eight? Nine? More than nine? How do astronomers decide what should be called a planet and what shouldn't? In Nine Planets and Counting we'll take you on a tour of the planets and other worlds that orbit around our Sun. And you'll learn about the asteroids and the newfound icy worlds that share their orbits with Pluto. You'll also learn about past controversies over how many planets orbit the Sun.

Skies Over Southwest Florida is a live presentation about the night sky. Audiences learn about the moon, planets, stars, and other celestial objects visible in the evening sky each week.

More Than Meets The Eye covers many constellations as well as the planets seen easily with the naked eye. Learn what different objects look like from binoculars and through different size telescopes.

Ring World is about the Cassini-Huygens mission to the planet Saturn and its moons. Come along on a NASA space spectacular, a two-billion-mile odyssey to Saturn and its fascinating satellites.

Observing the Moon: Our closest celestial ‘neighbor,’ the moon, will be the focus of this presentation along with a tour of the current night sky, constellations, and planets. If you just want to learn how and why the moon appears as it does in the night sky throughout a month, or how to become a more serious lunar observer, then this presentation is for you. Learn about ‘seas,’ craters, mountains, and rays as well as how to become an avid lunar observer. This program is given by Astronomy Specialist and JPL Solar System Ambassador Carol Stewart.

Springtime Constellation Stories: The weather’s great, it’s time to go outside and find the beautiful springtime constellations. Join us to learn about the spring constellation’s origins and how these mythological people, creatures, and objects were placed in the sky long ago by ancient cultures. We’ll look at historical drawings, photographs of the real sky, and see them on the planetarium dome. We’ll also take a tour of the current night sky to locate additional constellations and find the planets currently visible. This program is given by Astronomy Specialist and JPL Solar System Ambassador Carol Stewart.
